Rev. Mother Mary Veronica Odusanya, EHJ

Elected: October 1966 – 1978 – First African Superior General

Mother Odusanya, EHJ of blessed memory was elected on October 29, 1966 at the first indigenous Superior General of the EHJ. This is the first in the history and life of the Institute of the Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus. The Institute became autonomous and independent and never again dependent on the decisions or legislation of the O.L.A Sisters as it was 23 years ago before the first General Chapter of the Institute.

Being a young Institute barely finding her feet in the areas of spiritual and physical growth and renewal from dependent to independent, the Institute through the leadership of Mother Veronica Odusanya went through challenging experiences but she took the bull by the horn and saddled the administrative affairs of the Institute from 1966 – 1978).

At this initial challenge of settling down, Mother Veronica Odusanya embraced the difficulties with great faith, courage and strong-will. She worked tirelessly in governing the Institute.

During her tenure also was the massive training of Sisters in nursing and Grade II Teachers Training. She led with a courageous and undaunted spirit and kept the Institute forward in the midst of uncertainties of the time.

Mother Mary Veronica Odusanya parted this world on July 17, 2015 on account of ill-health and was buried on the 31st of August, 2015. She died at 84 years old.
